Annotation for Lola:

Lola is a publication with 39 full-page pictures. It tells the story of Lola, a twelve-year-old girl who runs away from home, is later carried off and finds herself in an unfamiliar place. From there, she sets off on a tortuous journey back home. The story is told in four chapters – Útěk (Escape), Tábor (Camp), Povodeň (Flood) and Cesta domů (The Way Home). In the book the theme of the journey is an association which is linked to broader topics relating to growing up. The heroine travels a dangerous road, full of obstacles. Her faith in human love and friendship, however, give her a good chance of a happy life. As author of the book is an artist (a painter active on the contemporary art scene) and a university lecturer, the story initially originated in pictures, which shaped the plot. The text is cleanly and simply written, rather like a documentary. The book is classed as an art book intended not only for teenagers. Some of the images reproduced in the book are actually 280 x 200 cm in size and have come to form a series of exhibitions that has been on show to the public in a number of prominent galleries under the same name – Lola.
